Would You Call This Man With Your Thanksgiving Questions?

   Thanksgiving 2011

Alton may not always be my favorite, but he is a true cooking wonk and I would trust him with any technical turkey or related questions. You’ll have a chance to ask him and some of his Food Network cohorts any questions you like on Thanksgiving Live!, a Skype call-In show on Sunday, November 20 from 12 pm to 2 pm EST on the Food Network. Also answering questions will be Bobby Flay, Anne Burrell, Alex Guarnaschelli, Sunny Anderson, Ted Allen, Rachael Ray and Melissa d’Arabian.

Probably not. He overcomplicates everything and I find more often than not his methods don't work. I turned against Alton quite some time ago. I'm not sure I would want cooking advice from Rachael Ray or Melissa D'Arabian either. However, I'd take it from Alex Guarnaschelli.

Ok - Don't freak out... But I made Alton's BRINED turkey a couple years ago. (And made gravy from the drippings...) AND it was not too salty and absolutely delicious and moist...

I like him. He makes me laugh. Especially when he talks about yeast dough.

I'm not sure that being condescended to by Mr. Brown would put me in the appropriate Thanksgiving spirit.

Anne Burrell & Alex Guarnaschelli,on the other hand, would be cool to learn from.

I watched it! I loved watching something on Food Network other than Chopped.

Rachel and Tracy,
Thank you for saying what I was thinking about Alton! And I agree with both of you about the other chefs too. Sunny is cool. I want to see what she had to say.

Sheila,
I remember that. You're my one example of someone I know who actually did that. I bet the turkey was great, but, REALLY, the drippings weren't unusable? The one time I brined a turkey, I did try to use the drippings and they were sooo salty, I couldn't.

Em,
I taped the show, so I haven't seen how it all played out yet. You didn't say if you got any good tips.

Alton's become perhaps a little arrogant over 14 years of "Good Eats" and "Iron Chef America", but I still like him. I actually enjoyed the following rebroadcast of "Re-Romancing the Bird" more than the collaborative special.
