President Obama Lauds Julia Child In Commencement Address At ASU

Well kind of. There was quite a lot of controversy about Arizona State University not awarding the President an honorary degree…as is customary when a President speaks at a college commencement.

Obama addressed the issue head-on by admitting that he still had a lot to accomplish. He gave examples of many prominent people who achieved great things at an older age, including Julia Child who was almost 50 when she published her first book. He told the new graduates to be proud of the goals they’ve reached, but not to stop there.

He ended with, “Don’t stop adding to your body of work. I can promise that you will be the better for that continued effort, as will this nation that we all love."
Can you imagine if Julia had stopped at Volume One?
