Gefilte Fish for Beginners

Happy Passover!!!

This is a good starting recipe for gefilte fish. The pepper is the thing, add LOTS.

Jessie's Gefilte Fish with Matzoh in Fish Gravy (6 pieces)

2 onions, chopped
2 carrots, cut into thin rounds
2 tbls. olive oil
1 24 oz. jar of Gefilte Fish
1/2 tsp. paprika
Freshly ground black pepper

2 matzohs
horseradish

Soften onions and carrots in olive oil, until onions are completely translucent. Add fish and all the juice from the jar, paprika and A LOT OF PEPPER. Simmer on low heat for 45 minutes. Chill fish and juice together. Remove fish from liquid and serve with Matzoh in Fish Gravy and plenty of horseradish.

For Matzoh in Fish Gravy, heat the juices from the fish with all of the onions and carrots. Stir in broken up matzohs. Serve immediately with gefilte fish.

Note: Sometimes I add 1 cup of vegetable stock to the simmering fish to make more gravy for the matzoh. If you have folks that really love the matzoh gravy, then add even 2 cups of stock.
